In Chiapas, three girls lost their lives after consuming poisoned bread in the community of San Cayetano, municipality of El Bosque, according to the Attorney General's Office (FGE). The incident occurred after a toxic substance was placed in food to kill stray dogs, a decision made by the community.
Subsequently, the three girls, whose identities have not been revealed, bought marshmallows and headed to the community dump, where they consumed the contaminated bread. They showed symptoms of poisoning such as general malaise and foam at the mouth, and despite the efforts of their relatives, their lives could not be saved.
The governor of Chiapas, Eduardo RamÃrez Aguilar, announced that the Attorney General's Office opened an investigation to clarify what happened and determine responsibilities. The girls, originally from Chenalhó, were transported by ambulance to be buried in their place of origin.
This tragic episode is the second recorded in the community of San Cayetano, where poison had previously been used in food to deal with stray dogs. The Attorney General's Office committed to carrying out the necessary investigations to clarify the facts.
